No TV-related rambles here. ONLY DEEP FRIED OREOS.

I've just assisted in the making of deep fried Oreos. I'm not sure whether this is awesome or horrifying. Mostly I just dusted everything--myself included--with powdered sugar and plated the Oreos once they were finished.

Somewhat more troubling: I've just eaten four deep friend (golden!) Oreos. I don't love fried foods aaaaaall that much, and I'm definitely not one for sweet fried foods. But they were so tasty! WHAT HAVE I BECOME!? I feel like I've made my Southern roots proud.

My stomach, on the other hand, is considerably less proud and more troubled.

Deep fried Oreos. So wrong. And yet? So right.

There were no Twinkies involved, for which I am thankful. There was a brief discussion of deep fried Coke (of the cola variety, not the hard drug) which we all decided was No Good. But we definitely had both regular and golden Oreos. Goldens: a waste of good cookie when eaten normally, but WHOA AMAZING when deep fried. My mouth is VERY PLEASED. My tummy is... not.

I'm all for sweet things (maple sugar on sweet potato or butternut squash = best veg side dish ever) but deep frying cookies makes me wrinkle my nose the same way that sweet tea makes me wrinkle my nose.

I can't help thinking that this could all be avoided if only sugar maples flourished in the south...

I spent the entire day (when discussion of the evenings fried cookies took place) making disgusted faces and quietly retching at the thought of deep fried Oreos. And then somehow when it happened, I got conscripted to dust them with powdered sugar. I figured that wouldn't be toooooo bad, but then I smelled them. And they smelled good. REALLY good. And I ate one without really thinking about it. SO MUCH BETTER THAN THEY SHOULD BE.

Also not an item I'll EVER actually purchase. I feel like they've got to be fresh out of the fry oil.

I was ordering food for delivery and discovered that not only can I get Bisquick over here (yay!), I could also buy grits. I ended up buying Bisquick.

HAH! Bisquick = what we used to bread the Oreos before frying them.

You too could make your own fried Oreos! YOU HAVE THE TOOLS.
